What Sets Us Apart
We Stand AZ is a justice-rooted organization led by and for those impacted by incarceration. Founded on the belief that lived experience is a source of power—not stigma—we equip incarcerated individuals, returning citizens, and their families with the tools to reclaim their stories and drive systemic change.
Through advocacy training, storytelling workshops, and mentorship, we create space for people to heal, lead, and organize. Our community-centered model amplifies the voices too often silenced—turning barriers into bridges and survival into leadership. Based in Arizona and grounded in radical empathy, we are building a future where dignity, equity, and freedom are not just ideals—but realities shaped by those who’ve lived the struggle.

Our Story

Empowering Change
We Stand AZ was born from lived experience. Founded by directly impacted individuals—those who have experienced incarceration firsthand or through their families—we knew the power of storytelling because it’s what helped us survive, organize, and rise. We didn’t wait for permission to lead. We built this movement from the inside out.
Our work began around kitchen tables, in visiting rooms, and at community meetings—places where stories were shared, hearts were opened, and collective vision was born. We saw how systems silence people, and we knew the only way forward was through voice, truth, and community.
Today, We Stand AZ is a growing network of justice-impacted advocates, organizers, and mentors across Arizona. We train people to speak truth to power, equip families with tools for change, and create platforms where the most silenced voices become the loudest agents of reform.
We’re not here to ask for change—we’re here to lead it.

"I never thought I could speak to lawmakers until We Stand AZ gave me the confidence and tools to do it."
